With Twitter, anyone can follow me without my approval. On Facebook, everyone needs my approval. Though perhaps ill-advised, I was simply blindly approving anyone. Then I stopped.
There was no single reason why I switched my Facebook habits, but I decided that I was going to start using the service the way Facebook made it seem it should be used: befriending only actual friends. I was a bit more lenient I friended anyone I’ve actually met in person. Everyone else? Gone. I purged several hundred people, cutting my friends in half in one day. But now I’m realizing that’s not good enough.
With the launch of Facebook Places, there’s a lot of talk about it being creepy or a potential security nightmare. I think all of that is and will continue to be largely overblown. That said, I’m also sure there will be legitimate causes for concern with the feature but mainly…

Yet Another Twitter Bug: Tweets longer than 140 Characters

Once again twitter has proved that it has the worst technical department. A twitter bug (which is now fixed though) allowed many people to post tweets longer than 140 Characters

…Late last night Japanese Twitter user @sskhybrid tweeted out the following 2,135 character tweet, which was inevitably retweeted by more than 100 people. Translated it seems to be a jumbled version of his experiences using Twitter.
User @esehara has also jumped on the long tweet bandwagon, tweeting out Genesis 1 in its entirety (3,157 characters). The Twitter bug which has left many befuddled is exploiting a length limit flaw in the new t.co URL shortener, allowing users to tweet out non-URL links of outrageously more than 140 characters.
If you’d like to reproduce the effect, and it seems to be catching, you can visit http://twitter.com/share?text=&url=yourtext, add whatever you want in place of yourtext, copy and paste your new t.co URL to Twitter (or use the handy TweetButton) and long tweet away.
The 140 character limit is basically the definition of Twitter. It’ll be interesting to watch what, if anything, changes now that you can go way longer. In any case I’m really looking forward to…

Twitter Launches New "You Both Follow" Feature, More

Twitter just rolled out a number of new features on Twitter.com. Many users have noticed the changes which seem to have hit within the last few minutes.

…As per comments, we’ve taken down a couple of the features as new, but I know at least on my account that they just showed up today, so perhaps Twitter has rolled them out to everyone now. We’d ask Twitter for comment, but they don’t provide user data . Thanks for the help everyone, hopefully Twitter will put out a blog post and spell out all of the exact features that they released or spread to all user today….
