Twitter Takes Teen from Zero to Villain to Hero in 5 Hours

One young Scottish web developer wanting to learn about Twitter development ended up learning some harsh lessons about Twitter users…

…your Twitter account led to speculation from some that the app may be a scam that would at a later date send out spam tweets from your account.
According to the developer, the truth is much more mundane. Reading through his tweets, it appears that 17 year-old James Cunningham had developed the app to learn how oAuth worked. Little did he know that while his back was turned his app would become a controversial viral hit.
On discovering the sudden popularity of Twifficiency, his elation quickly faded and he began explaining himself:…

TwitZip: Hyperlocal Twitter, via your ZIP code

Over the past few months a new, unofficial network named TwitZip has popped up on Twitter, offering hyperlocal news from your ZIP code.

…37201 would give you a heads up on what’s up. The down side, of course, being that the Nashville area has 13 different ZIP codes but that’s somewhat the point of it being hyperlocal.
TwitZip is partnered with outside.in to aggregate blog content from each specific ZIP, and it also partners with Groupon so you can expect to see the deal of the day for your area in the Twitter feed.
Presently, according to the TwitZip site, the focus is on news, blogs and crime. However, weather and local government alerts shouldn’t be too far behind. Not content to be a fly-by-night program, TwitZip aims to be a foundational piece of location based messaging in the US .
Give a check of your ZIP. It’s certainly worth a look….

Twitter Launches New "You Both Follow" Feature, More

Twitter just rolled out a number of new features on Twitter.com. Many users have noticed the changes which seem to have hit within the last few minutes.

…As per comments, we’ve taken down a couple of the features as new, but I know at least on my account that they just showed up today, so perhaps Twitter has rolled them out to everyone now. We’d ask Twitter for comment, but they don’t provide user data . Thanks for the help everyone, hopefully Twitter will put out a blog post and spell out all of the exact features that they released or spread to all user today….

5 Things Serious Tech People Need To Stop Tweeting

Twitter was built, populated, and promoted by the tech community. That just makes it even more ironic that so many of us techies have terrible Twitter manners.

…Twitter was built, populated, and promoted by the tech community. That just makes it even more ironic that so many of us techies have terrible Twitter manners. We should know better.
Look technology friends, Twitter is a lovely thing, but when we tweet certain things we make our followers cringe and twitch towards the unfollow button. Do whatever you will, but after reading literally millions of tweets I think that if we cut out the following Tweets we would all be better off.
And of course, I am just as guilty as you are.
Tweeting Every Damn Place You Go
You may think that it is interesting that you are at Whole Foods (because you have the spare coin, right?), but we don’t. The annoying thing is that many ‘must follow’ people in tech are some of the worst Foursquare-on-Twitter abusers.
I may have to follow you, but I hate your Foursquare spam. Tell me when you are at the White House, or the Playboy Mansion, not the carwash.
Vague Victory Tweets
Your Epic win today, really stoked about the next three months…

Twitter surpasses 20 billion tweets, rolls out new follow fe

Twitter users have clocked up an impressive 20 billion tweets since its creation in 2006, once again proving the on-going popularity of the micro-blogging site.

…Twitter users have clocked up an impressive 20 billion tweets since its creation in 2006, once again proving the on-going popularity of the micro-blogging site.A graphic designer from Tokyo (@GGGGGGo_lets_Go) lays claim to the 20 billionth tweet, which translates as: “So that means the barrage might come back later all at once.”We’ve no idea what this means, but because it’s got the URL suffix ‘20000000000′ it’s now famous. Follow throughIn other Twitter news, the site has rolled out new features which should make it easier to find new people on the site to follow.Taking a leaf out of Facebook’s, er, book there is now a ’suggestions for you’ feature that shows a list of people you might be interested in following. The feature is algorithm based and is meant to be catered to the types of people you already follow. In our quick tests it does seem to lean heavily on celebrities, rather than ‘real’ people but we are sure it will improve in time. This can be found in the Find People section of the site…

Xponex Media Blog: Americans are Top Bloggers, Tweeters

Which nation has more bloggers or twitter-users than any other?

…It seems like everyone in the world has a blog or a Twitter account these days but there’s only one country that’s number one. Sysomos, a research company, found that more Americans keep blogs and use Twitter than any other country on earth. That means about one third of all bloggers are in the United States, as are over half of all Twitter users. The company looked at over 100 million blog posts and attempted to gather gender, age, and location of the blogger. The results were pretty interesting. Perhaps not too surprising is the fact that over…
