LeBron Gets A Twitter Account

LeBron James has joined Twitter. He already has over 100,000 followers in just a few hours.

…oneandonlycp3 (Chris Paul) gas’d me up to jump on board so I’m here. Haaaa” It is not known if James will post his own messages or have someone do it for him.
James had been reluctant to join Twitter or Facebook and had even joked in the past about how other athletes discussed their personal lives online.
New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul, one of James’ closest friends, posted on Twitter at midday Tuesday that while he couldn’t persuade the two-time MVP to tell him with which team he’ll sign, he talked him into joining the service.
Less than an hour after Paul’s tweet, James had nearly 18,000 followers — even though he had yet to make a single post.
He passed 90,000 before 4:30 p.m. ET. Before the first message was posted, James’ arrival on Twitter also led to a slew of comic proposals for his first tweet.
Under the bio heading on James’ page it reads: King of Akron.James has yet to announce where he’ll play next season, a decision that could affect the future of several franchises and the city of…

Why Location Apps Are The Next Big Thing

Location services – small, mobile apps that allow people to share with friends where they are, what they’re doing and what’s cool there – are, much like Twitter, easily dismissed but actually a pretty huge deal. Not only do they represent the “next big thing” in tech, they are also part of how our culture is changing.

…using the web makes it much easier to find out what’s going on, which makes you more likely to get out and do things.
These new location apps Foursquare in particular take things a step further by injecting a playful competitive edge. Visit a place more than any other user and you become ‘mayor’ of that establishment.
By mixing mobile technology and a high-score mentality from gaming, these services encourage people to go and explore their cities, becoming the first person to check-in somewhere or just the guy or gal who checks in most.
This competitive edge appeals to many, and is another reason more and more people will use these apps.

They Help You Focus On Your Interests

When the first social networks like Friendster appeared, they were general purpose, aiming to be all things to all people. Later though, things started to get more specific, and you’d get social networks for book-lovers or pet owners or any number of things.
Similarly, we are now seeing the rise of location-based apps like…

10 things you didn’t know about Twitter [w/ VIDEO]

Bespoke cushions, a DJ booth, and meeting rooms named after birds – here’s our list of the best Twitter trivia

…Twitter s reception area is pretty sparse on ornaments, bar two brightly
painted models of deer and a handful of web awards. However, nestled in the
middle of their trophy shelf is a slightly incongruous photograph of
Williams and Stone flanking none other than
American-model-turned-TV-personality Tyra Banks. Perhaps Williams is
hankering after a spot on her chat show after his time on the Oprah
sofa last April….

China-Based Hackers May Have Used Twitter, Google to Attack

A group of researchers has linked a huge, China-based cyber espionage ring to the theft of thousands of documents — including classified information, visa applications, and personal identities — from “politically sensitive targets” around the world.

…The Shadow Network is not linked to earlier attacks uncovered this year by Google and also based in China, nor is it related to GhostNet, a network identified by the same researchers as having targeted the community of Tibetan exiles. However, this new network is linked to two individuals and a core of stable servers in Chengdu, People’s Republic of China. Chinese officials have repeatedly denied any government connection to these cyber espionage activities. Confirmed: Final Fantasy IX coming to Playstation Network.

After a couple of weeks’ worth of teasing, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada confirmed during a brief Twitter video that the best Final Fantasy game ever created will soon be released on the PlayStation Network.

…After a couple of weeks’ worth of teasing, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada confirmed during a brief Twitter video that the best Final Fantasy game ever created will soon be released on the PlayStation Network.
Just in case any of you forgot which Final Fantasy was the best, it was of course, Final Fantasy IX for the PlayStation. Final Fantasy VII might have brought the series into a new age, and Final Fantasy VI (III in North America) had the best cast and the most insane villain in franchise history, but there’s one thing neither of them had.
This guy:

Vivi wins, every time, and if you feel like arguing about it, I shall channel the very spirit of the internet into one giant, all-encompassing ‘You are wrong.’ Just imagine me saying that after every argumentative comment, and I can relax and eat my Chinese food.
Anyway, we’ll soon be able to carry him around in our pocket, or play with him on our PlayStation 3 brand console product. So says Yoichi Wada, via his tiny Twitter video. Hit up the link to see Yoichi…

Give Your Readers Personalized Content with My6sense

My6sense is a mobile app that basically gets to know what you like and what’s important to you, after which it organizes and filters your different web content — RSS feeds, Twitter messages, Facebook updates — based on your preferences.

…the Attention API is the latest addition to the my6sense stable of tools, allowing publishers integrate their own feeds into my6sense, so that users can get personalized content from that source. This data can also be integrated into other mobile applications and also with other services.A possible use case would work like this: A user could choose to subscribe to a my6sense stream of Mashable.com and in turn would get served the content that they most want to see in order of importance and interest. So instead of having to go through all the articles in an RSS feed, the most important stuff will bubble up to the top.My6sense is useful and usable as a mobile application, but having that type of technology expanded to other apps and other platforms makes a lot of sense. The Attention API will be in closed beta for a few months, but potential Attention API partners can sign up at my6sense.comPrint StoryTags: attention api, demo, demospring10, my6sense, semantic webMore Stories in Tech Give Your Readers…
