…The oldest person on Twitter died today, after over 1,000 tweets documenting numerous fish and chip dinners, several episodes of Deal or No Deal and a friendship with Peter Andre.Ivy Bean, 104, began tweeting last year from her residential home in the outskirts of Bradford, and amassed over 56,000 followers with posts telling of food, family visits, and even an invitation from Gordon Brown to meet the then prime minister in Downing Street.Ivy had fallen ill last month, and her followers had been kept updated by Pat, the manager of Hillside Manor, over the last few weeks. It was Pat who bore the bad news today.”Ivy passed away peacefully at 12.08 this morning,” she wrote just after 10am, adding: “I’m sorry it took me so long to tell you but it was a very difficult thing to do”.Ivy had originally become an internet sensation through Facebook, before switching to Twitter last year.Her insights into life in a care home warmed the hardest social media user, as she explained the nuances of northern bakery products…

Old Spice Sales Double With YouTube Campaign

You know those YouTube videos with that manly Old Spice guy and his hilarious responses to Twitter fans? Of course you do. So does everybody, it seems, because Old Spice body wash sales have increased 107% in the past month thanks to that social media marketing campaign.

…over the past three months. Individual products that were slipping in sales saw spikes after actor Isaiah Mustafa showed them off in the TV and InternetInternet video ads. Those numbers were cited in an article at BrandWeek.The campaign began with simple TV ads, which then went viral on YouTubeYouTube. The follow-up program in which Mustafa recorded funny videos in response to fans, bloggers and TwitterTwitter influencers hit it out of the park. Adweek quotes Visible Measures’ Matt Cutler saying that the total web views for all Old Spice brand videos have reached 110 million, surpassing the reach of traditional broadcast. Adweek also reports that Old Spice is working on a new campaign, but that it’s unrelated to the Mustafa videos. A new Twitter setting called “Tweet Media” has rolled out to several Twitter users, strongly suggesting that the company will soon embed videos and photos into the stream. Tweet Media, which we’ve been able to access under Twitter’s account settings, asks you whether or not you want to show photos and videos from everyone.

The writer behind the funniest one-liner on Twitter gets a $70,000 job with a top-tier firm in Los Angeles.

…”It’s really hard to find good writers. I don’t know why,” McKay told me. “It’s even harder to find people to write dialogue. It’s even harder to find funny writers.”And funny, viral writers like the geniuses who scripted the Old Spice man’s recent viral videos? Forget about it. “It’s much easier to write long form,” McKay said. “It’s much harder to get someone interested in something in 140 characters.”
This won’t be the first time a tweet landed someone a job. It’s not even quite unprecedented at Saatchi. The London office encouraged would-be interns to compete in a Facebook group challenge in which they battled to get the most members. But one tweet for a coveted advertising writing job?
